TrackReel Privacy Policy
Last updated: {{PUBLISH_DATE}}
TrackReel is made by Roadtrip Technologies Limited ("we", "us"), the controller of the personal data described here. This policy explains what the TrackReel iPhone app keeps on your device, what it sends to us and to our advertising partner, and the choices you have.
In short
- There is no account. We never ask for your name, email or phone number.
- Your sessions, GPS locations, speed, motion and G-force data, heart rate and other sensor data, videos and exports are stored only on your iPhone. We never receive them.
- To validate purchases, the app sends a random install identifier and your App Store transaction details to our server.
- To measure our advertising, the app uses the Meta (Facebook) SDK. It tracks you across other companies' apps and websites only if you allow it in Apple's tracking prompt.
Data that stays on your iPhone
Location, speed and route; accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer and compass readings; heart rate you allow the app to read from Apple Health; data from Bluetooth sensors you pair; AirPods head motion; videos you import and videos you export; GPX, FIT and TCX files you import. TrackReel only reads heart rate from Apple Health and never writes to it. Health data is never sent to us, never shared with advertisers, and never used for advertising. These data leave your iPhone only when you choose to share or save a file yourself.
Data we collect
Purchases and entitlement (our server, "App Hub")
- Install identifier: a random ID created when you install the app. It is not linked to your Apple Account, and a reinstall creates a new one. It is also attached to your purchases so that we can match them to your install.
- Transactions: when you buy, restore or renew, the app sends Apple's signed transaction record (product, transaction IDs, purchase and expiry dates, price, currency and storefront). Apple also sends us notifications about renewals, refunds and cancellations of these purchases.
- Launch check: each time the app starts, it asks our server whether your install has TrackReel Pro. We log the install identifier, the answer, and the IP address and user agent of the request.
Purpose: to unlock and restore TrackReel Pro, to prevent fraud, to keep our systems secure and to keep accounting records. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you, our legitimate interests (security and fraud prevention) and our legal obligations (accounting and tax).
Onboarding answers (our server)
During the first-run screens, the app sends the install identifier, the app version, which step you reached, whether you bought, restored or skipped, and your answers: the activity you will record, how you heard about TrackReel, and which permissions you allowed. Purpose: to understand and improve the first-run experience. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in improving the app.
Advertising measurement (Meta)
We use the Meta SDK to find out which of our ads bring people to TrackReel, so that we spend less on advertising. It sends Meta app events: app installs and launches, when the upgrade screen is shown, when a purchase starts, and completed purchases, trials and subscriptions with their price and currency. It also sends basic device information (device model, iOS and app version, language, time zone) and an identifier created by the SDK.
The advertising identifier of your device (IDFA) is sent to Meta, and your data is used to track you across other companies' apps and websites, only if you tap "Allow" in Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. You can change this at any time in iPhone Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. Declining changes nothing in the app. Meta's use of this data is governed by the Meta Privacy Policy. We never send Meta your location, sensor, health or video data.
Legal basis: your consent where the law requires it (including the tracking prompt), otherwise our legitimate interest in measuring our advertising.
Who processes the data
- Supabase hosts our App Hub server and database on our behalf.
- Meta Platforms receives the advertising events described above.
- Apple processes payments and sends us transaction notifications. We never receive your card or bank details.
We do not sell your personal data. Some of these providers process data outside the European Economic Area. When they do, the transfer is covered by safeguards such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
Purchase and transaction records are kept while your purchase is active and afterwards for as long as accounting and tax law require. Onboarding answers and launch-check logs are kept for analytics and security, and are deleted when they are no longer needed or when you ask us to delete them.
Your choices and rights
- Deny location, Health, Bluetooth, Motion or Photos access in iPhone Settings. The features that need them stop working; nothing else changes.
- Deny or withdraw tracking in iPhone Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
- Delete the app to delete every session and video stored in it.
- Under the GDPR and similar laws you can ask for access to, correction or deletion of your data, object to our processing, or ask us to restrict it. Because there is no account, include your App Store order ID (from Apple's receipt email) so that we can find your records.
- You can complain to your data protection authority. Ours is the Data Protection Commission in Ireland.
Children
TrackReel is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app or in the App Store release notes.
