TrackReel: lap timer and telemetry video overlay
TrackReel records what your iPhone senses during a session: GPS speed and route, G-force, altitude and heading, plus heart rate and Bluetooth sensors if you use them. It times your laps on any circuit, then burns a telemetry overlay (speed, G-meter, lap timer, track map and more) onto your own video. There is no account, and your sessions and videos stay on your iPhone.
It works for karting, car track days, motorcycles, cycling, running, hiking and skiing. Always use it on closed circuits, tracks and trails, obey local laws and venue rules, and never handle your phone while you are moving.
Record a session
- Open Sessions and tap New tracking.
- Choose what you are tracking (karting, car on track, motorcycle, cycling, running, hiking, skiing or anything else). Each activity sets sensible defaults.
- Check which sensors are switched on (keep GPS on for speed, laps and the map), then tap Start. Recording begins after a short countdown.
- Put the phone in a zipped pocket, a bag or a secure holder. Recording continues with the screen locked. iOS shows the blue location indicator, and TrackReel shows a Live Activity on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island.
- When you finish, tap Stop. Hold the Stop button to save without the confirmation question.
Allow location While Using the App. That is enough: TrackReel only uses location while a recording you started is running. If the app is closed unexpectedly, the session is recovered the next time you open it.
Indoor tracks: GPS does not work well under a roof, so speed, laps and the track map will be missing or wrong. G-force and the other motion data still record.
Laps and the circuit
- TrackReel builds the circuit from your GPS track and detects laps automatically.
- Drag the start/finish line on the map to where it really is. The laps are recalculated.
- You can also type in the official lap times from the track's timing sheet.
- Open a session to see the map, speed and G-force charts and the lap table. Tap a lap to see it on the map and the chart.
Lap times from the iPhone's GPS are indicative. For race-grade timing, pair an external GPS receiver such as a RaceBox (Pro).
Sync a video
- Open a session and tap Create video, or go to Videos and tap New video.
- Import the clip from Photos or Files. Videos from iPhone, GoPro, DJI and other action cameras work.
- Pick the session. TrackReel lists the sessions recorded at the same time first.
- TrackReel syncs the video with the session automatically, from the recording times and the movement in the picture, and tells you how confident the match is.
- To fine-tune, drag Offset, or pause on a frame and use This frame is… to pin it to the session start or a lap. For a long clip from another camera, pin a second moment near the end to correct the camera's clock drift.
GoPro with GPS: if the clip carries its own telemetry (GoPro models with GPS), TrackReel can use it directly, with perfect sync and no phone needed. If you move GoPro clips through another app first, import the original file through Files, because some apps strip the telemetry.
Edit the overlay and export
- Pick an overlay style: Race Dash, Broadcast, Pro Cycling, Pit Wall, Analog, Neon Cyber or Cinematic.
- Add, move and resize gauges one by one: speed, G-meter, track map, lap timer and lap counter, lean angle, heart rate, power, cadence, altitude, elevation profile, gradient, distance, compass, graphs and text.
- Choose the shape: 9:16 for TikTok, Reels and Shorts (fill or stacked), 16:9 for YouTube, 1:1, or the original.
- Tap Export. Keep the app open while it exports; the screen stays on. Then Save to Photos or Share.
Free exports are up to 60 seconds, 1080p at 30 fps, with a small "Made with TrackReel" watermark. TrackReel Pro removes the watermark and exports the full length, up to 4K at 60 fps.
Sensors
- Apple Watch heart rate: allow Apple Health access to heart rate. TrackReel reads heart rate only and writes nothing to Health. Watch samples can reach the iPhone a little late; they still land at the right time in your session.
- Bluetooth sensors (Pro): heart-rate straps, power meters, speed and cadence sensors, foot pods and external GPS receivers such as RaceBox. Pair them in Settings under Sensors & permissions, or when you start a tracking.
- AirPods head motion (Pro): turn it on when you start a tracking.
- Import activities: open a GPX, FIT or TCX file with TrackReel (from Files or another app's share sheet), or use Import a GPX, FIT or TCX file in Sessions.
- Export data (Pro): GPX and CSV from a session.
TrackReel Pro, trial and restore
Recording, lap timing and all your own data are free, with no limit. TrackReel Pro adds clean full-length exports up to 4K60, every overlay style and gauge, Bluetooth sensors, AirPods head tracking and data export.
- Plans: monthly, yearly with a 7-day free trial, or a one-time lifetime purchase. Prices are shown in your currency in the app.
- Free week: after your first recording of 5 minutes or more, Pro unlocks on your iPhone for 7 days at no charge. Nothing is billed when it ends.
- Restore: open Settings, then Pro, then Restore purchases (or tap Restore on the paywall). Use the same Apple Account you bought with.
- Cancel or change a subscription: Settings > Pro > Manage subscription in TrackReel, or iPhone Settings > your name > Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date.

Your data
Sessions, videos, locations and health data stay on your iPhone. Deleting the app deletes them, so export anything you want to keep first. Read the TrackReel Privacy Policy for what is sent to our purchase server and for advertising measurement.
